[ Oh lord, where to begin with that? It's the strangest situation, being in a time and place where your wife isn't up to speed with you and her and your bedroom activities.
Jonathan swallows, feeling his face growing hot again. ]
I can't lie to you, it is. . . At first. So you told me. The first time was perhaps a little awkward in general but. . .
You do have a fair point... and it won't do for you to become ill, either.
[She gives his a squeeze in return - not that she can squeeze very hard, considering their differences in strength. Erina presses a soft, chaste kiss to his cheek.]
Not that I wouldn't be delighted to nurse you back to health again, [She smiles teasingly, and gives Pesto a pat.]
[ Jonathan chuckles softly, rising to his feet and still holding her hand to help her up from their bench. ] I cannot pretend that I did not enjoy you nursing me - as useless as I felt. Still, it brought you back to me.
[ If he hadn't been in such a state after all would they have ever been reunited the way they were? ]
Yes, let's La-- Miss Pendleton.
. . .I must confess that I had already grown rather used to calling you Lady Joestar at home, in my time.
I would like to think that wouldn't have been the case. [ Despite everything Jonathan had been put through, he still somehow tries to see the best in people, to give them the benefit of the doubt. Even the person he knows she's hinting at. Often to his own detriment some people might say although Jonathan would argue that it just comes with being a gentleman, and trying to be a good person. ]
But I'm afraid I cannot say your concern was unwarranted.
[ They're walking back in the direction they came from now and Pesto recognises that, happily tugging on his lead, tail wagging away. ]
[ Jonathan is all too aware of all of things he will never get to experience but- to have Erina back with him, here in this place... He feels nothing less than the luckiest man alive to have a second chance at a life with her like this. Travelling, experiencing other places, all of that missed opportunity truly pales in comparison in Jonathan's mind. This more than makes up for all of it. ]
I would like that very much.
Perhaps if we cannot find somewhere that serves it we could find a recipe and try making it instead? ... I've never really cooked anything before but I ought to get used to not having a cook and servants around. Life is very different here. It wouldn't be so unusual for me to do these things for myself.
Oh! Neither have I! Though, admittedly the most I have done of late is manage a very sad poached egg. One of my neighbors was so shocked she made me sit down and fed me a copious amount of rice and other dishes.
[Erina giggles softly.]
We shall simply have to be careful not to burn it or set anything on fire. I'm sure we can manage that, surely.
I'm sure we can if we do so together. [ Can they? ]
I'll admit that the Italian fellow I am rooming with has been doing all of the cooking since I arrived here. I'm not sure that he would actually allow me near the kitchen in that way at present.
[ It occurs to him that he's never actually clarified to Erina just who his roommate is. Of course, she had met Baron Zeppeli after all... Although he's not sure that the man gave her the best impression. ]
[He had decidedly not given the most positive impressions. (That poor frog!) But Jonathan had cherished him and was quite beside himself when he and Speedwagon returned home bruised and battled. So she had put her slightly negative opinion to one side, for Jonathan's sake. As it was, the frogs of England were safe from Italian fisticuffs.
She hummed in thought.]
Well, perhaps it would not hurt to ask if the younger baron would be so kind as to teach you. Or myself, if you prefer.
Yes, just like the Baron Zeppeli. Caesar is his grandson if you can believe it. I'm sure he would teach both of us.
[ It still takes him back that time and logic mean so little in this place, even with all of the bizarre things he had already encountered back home.
Jonathan pauses a moment, then gently and affectionately squeezes Erina's hand. There's a smile on his face. ]
In fact - he told me that he knows our grandson, Erina. Just imagine it, we have a full-grown grandson.
[ There is of course, a tinge of sadness to what he's saying- the fact that he'll never get to meet said grandson, but he also sounds happy and infinitely proud. ]
[Erina still manages to look perplexed. Did that then mean the two only managed to perform their marital duties once? But it would be too forward to ask, she was sure. After all, she would truly be the pot calling the kettle black.]
[ Jonathan would assure her that it certainly wasn't just once but, he's not sure his heart would take having to look his wife-fiance in the eye and have to explain that. ]
It is. My only regret is that I shall never get to meet them.
Although with Baron Zeppeli's grandson arriving here at the same time as us, who knows? Perhaps I might.
You don't feel it would be passing strange? I cannot think of a stranger idea than meeting my descendants, but then, here we are from two different points. Perhaps it won't be quite so bizarre.
[Erina leans into Jonathan and lets the silence between them grow comfortably.]
It would be very strange, I agree. [ But... And cue the puppy-like enthusiasm. ] I would also be delighted to meet my family!
[ With Jonathan's rather isolated upbringing, of course he would be entirely enthusiastic about this. He's no less pleased to answer Erina's next question. ]
He is a very good person. I can tell that he has a good heart. [ What he means is, that he can tell that despite all of Caesar's... Caesarness... Erina doesn't need to know all about that though. ] I believe that his grandfather would be very proud of him.
[Erina squeezes his hand as her building comes into sight, just down the road. It feels like it hasn't been long enough at all, and now it will come to an end before she's even begun to truly enjoy her time with Jonathan.
Almost purposefully, Erina slows her stride.]
As for our family. . . I wonder what they're all like?

We soon forgot about that. [ ahem ]
no subject
Ah. Knowing one another. Like that.
[ If she continues speaking, Erina knows she is liable to put her foot directly into her mouth. ]
I am glad it is you.
no subject
Jonathan can't help but be glad that the dog doesn't understand what they're talking about. ]
It could only be you for me, Erina.
[ He gently squeezes her hand again. ]
I should walk you back to your quarters soon, my love. I don't want you catching a chill.

Well, Lord Joestar, shall we go home?

Yes, let's La-- Miss Pendleton.
. . .I must confess that I had already grown rather used to calling you Lady Joestar at home, in my time.

I admit I thought of writing you many times while I was in India, Jonathan. But then I was concerned that my letters would be intercepted.
[She doesn't need to say the name; Jonathan likely knows of who she speaks.]
no subject
But I'm afraid I cannot say your concern was unwarranted.
[ They're walking back in the direction they came from now and Pesto recognises that, happily tugging on his lead, tail wagging away. ]
I did miss you.
no subject
I missed you. But I think you would have loved India, Jonathan, like I did.
[Knowing that he would never be able to experience it saddened her, but for Jonathan's benefit, she kept her tone light.]
We shall have to find someone that serves Indian-style curry! Provided, of course, the ingredients don't turn into their uncooked forms, that is.
no subject
I would like that very much.
Perhaps if we cannot find somewhere that serves it we could find a recipe and try making it instead? ... [Erina's eyes widen, and then she reddens.]
That is, I am aware how a grandson would occur, but from what you've said, we are only married very briefly.
[What were the chances? They were quite small, weren't they? Her brow furrowed as she tried to figure out the logistics.]
no subject
Well... I suppose once is all it takes... In theory I mean.
[ Oh my god please don't call him a naughty man again his heart can't take it ]
no subject
[Erina still manages to look perplexed. Did that then mean the two only managed to perform their marital duties once? But it would be too forward to ask, she was sure. After all, she would truly be the pot calling the kettle black.]
It is nice, though, to know we have a family.

[ Oh he's noticed the slowing down alright and he's... not opposing it in any way at all. ]
With your involvement, my love, then our child and grandchild can't fail to have to turned out wonderfully.
[ And who is he kidding? Even if they hadn't, Jonathan would love them all the same. ]
