[Erina's sent along a small cake to Jonathan's lodgings and a card. There is also a carefully wrapped bar of dark chocolate festooned with a large, light-blue ribbon. The card reads:
"Happy birthday, my love!
I have further plans for you, but please enjoy these small tokens of my affection in celebration of your natal day.
[His roommate will find a nice little gift on their kitchen counter. Who's it from??? Who knows. Maybe the Italian will give him away-that 'Buon Compleanno' written on a small piece of paper kind of hard to deny, but listen.
Shut up.
There's a bottle of japanese wine, a little bag of chocolate, and a collar fit for a certain Pesto that just so happens to match the pattern on one of Jonathan's outfits. Don't ever @ him about this.]
Hey, this is Jolyne--just in case you were wondering before I got too far into this thing.
So, umm... there's something I may have forgotten about previously, and I feel like maybe I should talk to you about it first. It's kind of weird, but I don't want you being like surprised or anything right?
Anyway, so the deal is that I'm engaged. That's not the weird part I guess, people get engaged every day.
But, ummm... I guess it's the person I should tell you about. I... should probably let you absorb this first. Because this is just awkward. And embarrassing.
Also, I still haven't told my dad because he might freak out.
Jojo, I believe that we ought to fully enjoy the festivities and take a little trip to Hokkaido properly. I believe it will be a bit nicer, now that they've defeated that monster there.
[It's her very lovely husband's very lovely birthday, and Erina has risen early to make sure that everything she's plotted will go to plan. She's been especially sneaky in the last week or so, spending more time in parts of their home that haven't seen as much use as normal, keeping him away from their cupboards when he strays too close.
All is revealed in the morning, when Jonathan wakes up and is presented with a gift: a leatherbound notebook for her scholarly gentleman, the warm leather embossed with a pattern of wisteria and sun shafts. It is full of fresh, well-made paper for all his note taking and drawing needs.
Not only that, there is a new kimono set for him, in a dark navy, all ready for the spring season as it moves into summer, especially made to keep him nice and cool.
And most importantly, there is a chocolate cake ready for consumption for breakfast. It is, after all, his birthday.]
